The former RUC Barracks at Poyntzpass
The building is instantly recognisable as a former RUC station. These highly distinctive buildings, built to a design by the English architect, T.F.O. Rippingham, are found throughout the province. As the nature of policing has changed, many have been decommissioned and sold, as here, for housing. At Poyntzpass the five constables and a sergeant station was closed in 1967 prior to the start of The Troubles. Built in 1922 it replaced the village's RIC Barracks which stood in Railway Street.
