Derrybeg - An NIHE estate that has been turned around by its own efforts
Derrybeg, a Northern Ireland Housing Executive estate, was once the archetypal "no points needed" sink estate, with about a third of its 300 houses vacant. Today, thanks to the efforts of the Derrybeg Residents Association it has become a pleasant neighbourhood to live in and vacant tenancies are at a premium. It is joked locally that nowadays a personal recommendation from the Pope himself is needed to get a house on the estate. http://www.newrymemoirs.com/stories_pages/derrybegunique_1.html

The Derrybeg Estate was built on a green field site with no social facilities to speak of. The estate also suffered greatly as a result of The Troubles. http://www.newrymemoirs.com/stories_pages/derrybegunique_1.html
