Cabra Road running past the Cabra House demesne
The present Cabra House was built on the site of a house previously owned by the Maguinness Family of land owners by Alexander McMullan, who founded the Castlewellan Whiskey manufacturers, Mooney Brothers. After the loss of his heir Patrick Francis at the young age of 22 McMullan bequeathed his estate to his daughter Mary and her landowning Co Monaghan husband George Henry Garltan. The last of the Gartlans of Cabra - Major General Gerald Ian Gartland CBE, MC - died in the 1970s.

Chicken sheds in the grounds of Cabra House
In recent decades the immediate grounds of this manor house were used for the rearing of chickens in large chicken houses. These sheds, but not the house, were offered for sale in 2014. when they were said to be in poor condition.
