Excerpt from the second tablet of the Newry-Mourne Memorial
Pte Dylan Vaughan-Jones, 2 Para, of Corwen, who died aged 18 in the Warrenpoint Bombing of the 27th August 1979, was a former pupil of Ysgol y Berwyn, Bala, where I taught. Seeing his name brought back equally sad memories of others of my students who gave their life for Queen and Country including, also in the shadow of the Mourne Mountains, Pte Michael Swanick of Birkenhead, a member of the 1st Batt Duke of Edinburgh's Royal Regiment (Farmers Boys), who died in the explosion at "Sandy's" Soldiers' Home at Ballykinlar Camp in October 1974, aged 20. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warrenpoint_ambush http://history.farmersboys.com/Postings/NI/sandes.htm Image
