Tesco Extra, Bridgewater Park, Banbridge
This is the Tesco Extra supermarket at Bridgewater Park in Banbridge. It opened at 8am on Thursday, 16th October 2014 and this photograph was taken 37 minutes later. It is in fact the second purpose built Tesco store in Banbridge, the first store on the Castlewellan Road having opened in 1999. The two stores are to operate concurrently for some time, with this store at Bridgewater Park being much larger but further from the town centre. There were plans for this site to have the largest Tesco in Ireland, although planning regulations limited the size of the store and delayed its construction.

The Banbridge bypass (1981)
See Image The Banbridge bypass, looking towards Belfast from the Bannview Road bridge, when the road was closed for resurfacing. The practice has now changed but, at the time, new roads received a final surface – usually about two years after opening. The absence of the southbound carriageway (right) is described in Image
