The present church, a fine Gothic building, was built in the 1870s replacing an earlier church dating from the 1840s. The building suffered an arson attack during the Troubles.

The Church of the Immaculate Conception, Leitrim
During "The Troubles" this was one of a number of churches and chapels in Northern Ireland to be the subject of an arson attack. This fine building, built -like St Malachy's, Castlewellan - of Ballymagreehan granite, dates from 1874. The Parish Priest has charge also of St. Mary's Church, Dechomet.
