The Causeway End Road bridge, Lisburn (1)
The bridge, carrying the Causeway End Road across the Belfast – Dublin railway, was very narrow and presented a hazard for pedestrians. It was widened with footpaths being provided on both sides. This is the view towards the centre of Lisburn shortly after the start of work. Image shows the widened bridge in 2011.

Railway hedgecutter, Lisburn
This machine, seen running towards Lisburn along the third line at the Causeway End Road, was (as I recall) a conversion from a permanent-way maintenance vehicle. It was used to trim lineside vegetation.

The Third Line, Lisburn
The third (single) line between Knockmore Jct Image and Lisburn Image finally opened in 1977. Someone noticed that it had been built without planning permission. A retrospective application followed. Permission was eventually given with the condition that a sound barrier be provided. The 11.35 Ballymena – Belfast Central is approaching the Causeway End Road bridge west of Lisburn station.
