?Caf? Azizzi?, Belfast (March 2015)
A recently-opened “Café Azizzi” on the ground floor of the Dublin Road side of the former Ulster Bank Image The premises were one of the many which might be called “long-term vacancies”. A distant memory suggests that (about 25+ years ago) there was an antiquarian bookshop here. This photograph appears as a matter of record only. I have no connection with the business.

Shaftesbury Square direction sign, Dublin Road, Belfast (August 2015)
Shaftesbury Square was once an important junction on the road from Belfast to Dublin via Bradbury Place Image where there had been a turnpike toll house and Balmoral Image where there is now a flyover Image Traffic was controlled by a celebrity policeman until The Troubles caused his replacement (on safety grounds) by an equally well-known traffic warden (both often received Christmas presents from passing drivers). Manual control has now been replaced by multiple sets of traffic lights, with various filter arrows, making the place quite simple to use. The former Ulster Bank Image is on the right.

Barber's sign, Dublin Road, Belfast (December 2015)
In the days before compulsory education, when few could read or write, signs served to show the trade carried on within. The barber’s pole (now usually an illuminated sign) is one of the few survivors. This one is at the Shaftesbury Square end of the Dublin Road.

See Image The underground public toilets are long closed but this wrought iron sign remains. The “Gents” still has the frame but the sign has gone.
