Old railway, Newtownards (1)
61 years after the Belfast and County Down lines from Belfast to Donaghadee (via Comber and Newtownards) closed there are few visible signs that Newtownards ever had a railway. This part of the course of the line survives on the western side of the Bangor Road. Post-closure vegetation makes it look like an embankment but the 1963 one-inch map shows it as a cutting. Image shows the course of the line on the other side of the road.
