The Moat, Donaghadee
The moat is a Norman mote dating from the late 12th or early 13th century. This building atop the mote is known as “the moat”. It dates from about 1821 and was a store for the gunpowder used in building Donaghadee harbour. Learned authorities sometimes describe it as a “sham castle”.

Pre-Worboys, Donaghadee
Today’s road signs are mainly the result of the report delivered by Sir Walter Worboys in 1963. The old type of road sign is known as a “pre-Worboys”. There are only a few left in NI. This one is on the New Road, Donaghadee (close to the Manor Farm). The direction of view should be self-explanatory!
