MED approaching Marino station - 1975
A 3-car UTA built MED set approaches Marino station with a passenger service from Belfast (Queen's Quay) to Bangor. Introduced between 1952 and 1954, the MEDs were the first diesel railcars in the British Isles with air-operated passenger doors. Withdrawn by July 1978, none survive in preservation.

Red light, Seapark, Holywood
A post-mounted red light (not vandalised and apparently in working order), at the left-hand bend where Ballymenoch Park becomes Seapark Grove. My first thought was that it might be a navigation light for Belfast Lough but, if it is/was, the view would be blocked by trees. The railway embankment, between Holywood and Marino stations, is in the background.

Train, Marino, Holywood (2012-1)
At this time of year the cutting on the Holywood/Belfast side of Marino station is mostly in shade. The 11.27 from Bangor has just left Marino for Portadown. At close to noon the sun is just about highlighting the top of the banks. C3K set 3002.

MED at Marino station - 1976
Marino station was opened by the Belfast Holywood & Bangor Railway in 1869, who provided a single-storey booking office and waiting room. This building received a second storey in 1900, when it became the Station Master's house - a new booking office (since demolished) being opened on the opposite platform. One of the very few surviving structures on the Belfast - Bangor line dating from the days of the BHBR/BCDR, the building is now private property. A UTA built MED set enters Marino station with a Belfast (Queen's Quay) - Bangor service.
