No 5 Donegall Square South, Belfast
See Image The replacement building was a striking design by Robinson McIlwaine. It has helped to give the Square a new character. It won a RIBA award in 1988. This is part of the main entrance. Latterly the offices of the only Belfast branch of the HSBC bank. See also Image

Tall Ships "bendybus", Belfast (1991)
The first visit, to Belfast, of the Tall Ships Race was in July 1991 when Citybus had this Leyland-DAB articulated bus (2001 C 101 HDT, ex-South Yorkshire PTE) painted in a special advertising livery. It was waiting, between turns, at Donegall Square South.

Bank of Ireland, Belfast
Even before the banking debacle and the recession the banks were reducing the number of branches. This office, in the bank’s regional office at Donegall Square South (corner of Adelaide Street), is now the main branch in the city centre. It used to be upstairs, here Image Image shows a temporary back view from Adelaide Street.

See Image With the removal of the wheel Image it’s now possible to see (and photograph) nos 1-5 Donegall Square South from the City Hall grounds. 1-3 (left) is the regional office of the Bank of Ireland. It was a speculative build replacing a 1970’s building, clad in reddish concrete panels, occupied by the Commercial Union. Robinson McIlwaines’ no 5 is on the right. Image shows an earlier building on part of the site.
