In a magnificent piece of corporate gobbledygook this week, the AIB Group announced “The distinct assets that we plan to sell principally comprise our UK business”. This includes the First Trust Bank Image the logo of which is identical to that of AIB. It will be a victim of the sale. This one is outside a branch in Donegall Square North.

Former Northern Bank, Belfast (3)
Media reports during the week suggested that the tourist office, currently housed in the former Ulster Bank Image, Donegall Place, would move to this former Northern Bank branch at Donegall Square North Image – well placed opposite the City Hall. The proposal for a move has been around for some time and is recorded in the minutes of the Council’s Development Committee on 13 January 2010: “The recommendation is that the Northern Bank site on Donegall Square North provides the optimum available location for the Belfast Welcome Centre. . . . . . In order to make an informed decision on the relocation of the Belfast Welcome Centre to the Northern Bank 8-10 Donegall Square North, more detailed plans and costings must be produced.” Image shows the new tourist office in December 2013.
