The former gate lodge to Belfast Castle, at the corner of Strathmore Park and the Antrim Road (foreground). Both the castle Image and the gate lodge were designed by John Lanyon and date from about 1870. The lodge (converted for commercial use) is an attractive building but now separated from the castle grounds by suburban housing. On the other hand it has survived and is well maintained by the present occupant. Image shows the Marquis of Donegall’s crest.
