The Dominican Convent , Falls Road
The convent was built to provide accommodation for sisters of the Dominican order who were asked by the Bishop of Down and Connor to open a school for Catholic girls from the Falls area. This school became the St Dominic's Grammar School for Girls which stands next to the convent and which has a catchment area covering the wider Belfast area. Today, the convent is a community of only 13 nuns, who no longer have an active teaching role at the school, but retain trusteeship over the conduct of the school.
The building with the rose window is the convent's chapel

The lower end of Springfield Road viewed from the Falls Road
Like The Falls, the Springfield area is strongly nationalist and republican. It borders on to the equally staunch Protestant and Loyalist area of the Shankill.

St Dominic's Grammar School for Girls
This school dates back to 1870 when it had four pupils. Much additional building has taken place in recent years - but in a style to match the original convent building.
