"King Billy's on the Wall "- Welcome to Sandy Row
This fine mural of William III is painted on the gable end of a terrace of houses at the northern entrance into Sandy Row - a Protestant Loyalist community in Central Belfast. The Doomed Mural at the Entrance to the Loyalist Sandy Row
This mural is at the northern end of this staunchly loyalist working class area. Sandy Row is a stronghold of the UDA (Ulster Defence Association), a loyalist paramilitary organisation. The mural has echoes of the IRA mural in the Bogside of Londonderry/Derry. Its days, however, are numbered. In response to complaints that the mural is bad for business, it is to be painted over in the next few weeks. It will be replaced by a mural depicting King Billy. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-18296191 http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/local-national/northern-ireland/king-billys-return-an-artistic-bid-to-regenerate-belfasts-sandy-row-16180428.html

William of Orange Mural at the entrance to Sandy Row
Sandy Row is a fiercely Loyalist Protestant working class area behind Great Victoria Street. The mural, the work of artist Ross Wilson cost £60,000, and replaced the Ulster Freedom Fighters Mural. This mural is unusual in its use of plastic relief lettering. http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/local-national/northern-ireland/king-billys-return-an-artistic-bid-to-regenerate-belfasts-sandy-row-28767481.html
