Kent Street, Belfast
Kent Street is a narrow street running from Royal Avenue towards the inner city. Surprisingly (at least to us natives) it now has a backpackers hostel (middle upper left). The Central Library is on the right. Continue to Image

North Street, Belfast (part)
This part of North Street Image fared badly during the “Troubles”, partly with the general decline of central Belfast and partly (I’d guess) because of its proximity to potential “flashpoints”. Now with the limbo period awaiting the extension to the Castle Court Image described in Image it has an air of something between neglect and death throes. There are three buildings here at the Peter’s Hill end. Law’s Court Image is just above the passing car on the right. Some might remember features of the street such as McMurray’s, Christies, the wee Woolies and the Elephant all of which have passed into history. To see some of the detail on the buildings continue to Image

North Street, Belfast (detail) (2)
See Image The buildings in the first photo in this series Image once had names such as “Windsor Buildings” and “Merchants’ Buildings”. The part between Winetavern Street and Millfield was numbered 142-192 (the even numbers are on the left going out from the city centre) but I cannot say, for sure, which is which now. This datestone is above the first floor on the building on the right. Continue to Image

The Gaiety Entry, Belfast
Officially it’s McKibben’s Court, running from Kent Street Image to North Street Image in the background. It takes its nickname from the Gaiety Theatre which once stood at the far end.

The part between Winetavern Street and Millfield was numbered 142-192 (the even numbers are on the left going out from the city centre) but I cannot say, for sure, which is which now. This detail (which includes the letters “MB” – probably short for “Merchants’ Buildings”) is at roof level on the middle building. Continue to Image
