Postbox, Sion Hill, Clifton
The cypher-less postbox BS8 430 is at the corner of Caledonia Place. Many thanks to Chris Downer for explaining that it is an "Anonymous" box, and dates from between 1879 and 1887, when manufacturers Handyside forgot to include the Victorian cypher - see http://www.secret-london.co.uk/Post_boxes.html .

An unciphered letterbox on Sion Hill
There has been a box here since the mid-nineteenth century, but this one bears no allegance to the monarchy, it seems. It was made by the Handyside foundry.

Clifton rocks Railway, Clifton
This was a water balance funicular running in a tunnel cut in the Avon Gorge cliffs. In WWII it was converted to air raid shelters and a BBC transmission station. Seen on a Heritage open Day, it is now looked after by a trust and on this occasion the upper station was open for visits. It is possible to do a 2 hour exploration of the whole site.

Clifton Rocks Railway - former entrance
The Clifton Rocks Railway was a water balance funicular running in a tunnel through the cliffs at Clifton. This is the original entrance with a reconstructed 'halo' carrying the name. Beyond is the Clifton Suspension Bridge.
