2010 : Gate at Arno's Gate
Not THE gate, that was a toll gate on the old turnpike, for this gate see below. Information from: fotolibra.com (now defunct) Built in 1760 by James Bridges for William Reeve. It was the entrance to the stables at Arno's Court. The stables were the Black Castle, now a public house. The arch was moved in 1912 to its present position as the entrance to Arno's Court Bath House. It was restored in 1995. There are four statues, King Edward 1st, King Edward 3rd, Robert Earl of Gloucester and Geoffrey, Bishop of Coutances. These are copies of early statues. Only two of the statues mentioned are visible here, probably King Edward 1st and King Edward 3rd.
