Village decorations
Christmas is getting nearer, so the decorations are out now. A new restaurant is being refitted further along the way.

Wedding car at Chew Magna
This rather pretty Morris Minor convertible - hired for the occasion of my friends' wedding - is parked outside the Old School Rooms in Chew Magna, inside which the happy couple and their assembled guests are getting uproariously drunk (although at this point in the afternoon, everything is still reasonably civilized). In the background is the Bear & Swan public house, where a number of the wedding guests (including the bride at one point) kept sneaking off to because it was showing a World Cup match in which England were playing.

Natural and artificial adornments
The tree in the small triangular patch is a feature of Chew Magna's heart. This time of year the colourful seeds are complemented by Christmas decorations.

Wedding car outside The Old School Rooms
The Old School Rooms - the entrance to which is behind the Morris Minor cabriolet - is now hired out as a venue for wedding receptions, parties and what not. It was built in 1510 as the church house for the adjacent St Andrew's Church: the upper floor was used as a schoolroom and the lower as the village poor house (and occasionally as a prison). In the 1960s the building was declared unsafe, but it was extensively restored in 1971 and used as a youth club until it was bought by the parish council and converted to the village hall in 1981. On this occasion the hall had been hired by some friends for their wedding reception, hence the shiny white Morris Minor!
