The Mill of Mill Lane fame
This was the mill next to the pond in Compton Martin, now private residence. An old mill stone is retained, set into the wall in the entrance porch.

Water in only two
Compton Martin's water supply has long been centred around this spot. The River Yeo rises from the Mendip slopes that shroud the village and this was originally a spring, right next to the mill pond. In later years, the springs were properly furnished by the pumps (both Joseph Evans examples) in the large cabinet. Both pumps have been lovingly tended and still work, although the notices warn it is not of drinking quality. Despite being painted in the same grey, the three nearest objects are merely bollards; see Image] for the larger fixture.

A watery lion
The emblem on this pipework is the sign of a Joseph Evans pump. Although the system is no longer the village's water supply, it is retained as characterful feature.

The press has lost its wood
The remaining ironwork stands alone and forlorn, now that the wooden beam has gone. Compare with Rick Crowley's shot Image] of 2009.
