Sign for the Travellers Rest
An obvious sign which the sign painters often enliven, but travellers of the past using horses and coaches, really did need to rest and make use of the inns.

A roadside nature reserve
The small sign claims this patch of green beside the pavement on the A37 is a wildlife haven. At this time of year it seems a little ambitious.

Traveller's mark
A cutmark on the Traveller's Rest, having been cut in the nineteenth century and still here under a coat or two of paint. See Image] for a wider view and http://www.bench-marks.org.uk/bm31989 for the entry in the Benchmark Database.

The Traveller's Rest
Pensford Hill has this fine inn to greet passers-by. It was once the Railway Hotel and was close to the old platforms, but changed its name around the time of the closure of the line. A benchmark can be found on the short corner near the sign - see Image

Pensford's finest
The village entrance stone is not a Millennium project, but does raise the profile of one John Locke, FRS. He was Pensford's acclaimed thinker and physician (1632-1704) who is known as the 'Father of Liberalism'.
