A better and more fitting tribute
Stanton Drew had a war memorial here at the corner with Sandy Lane; it was a simple stone and paving created in the 1960s. However, it was felt to be a tad inconspicuous and so the village decided to renovate it and make it a more eye-catching. Various efforts to raise cash and attain grants have been friutful and so the old memorial has been removed whilst the new work is carried out. Local craftspeople and artists are engaged and some of the stonework is being recycled.

Stanton Drew war memorial
This modest memorial is easy to pass by un-noticed. For a small village with not many inhabitants around a century ago, the names would have been known by everyone. For the record, it lists Ernest Coles, Matthew Keates and Joseph Payne from the First World War; Frank Roynon and Lionel Thompson from the Second.

Early Spring?
The small triangular patch of greenery at the road junction appears to be a private garden. Even so, it is something of a surprise to see snowdrops with orange and purple crocuses out already.

Mixed materials
A multitude of different building materials have been used in the construction of one of the walls to Stanton Court. The greenery is in fact a telegraph pole covered in ivy. This can be seen in an earlier photograph. Image
