The former St Michael the Less Mission Church
This odd building is now a private residence but was originally a mission hall. It was founded in 1886 but closed in 1956; a garage was built alongside it but that has been demolished, allowing a better look at a former place of worship.

Unusual Sculpture on House Wall
This unusual head is on the wall of a victorian brick built house on Hill Avenue in Bedminster Bristol facing Victoria Park and Windmill Hill. There is nothing on the house to indicate the identity of the man whose head appears here.

Marmaduke Street, Bristol
Viewed from Hill Avenue at the edge of Victoria Park.
Marmaduke Street is one of several parallel streets between Hill Avenue and St John's Lane. Except for Marmaduke Street and Water Lane, the streets are named after British cities, towns or counties, such as Nottingham Street and Merioneth Street.

A poor picket
A small issue on the flanks of Victoria Park has been surrounded by some picket fencing, which has seen better days. The waters flow through some channelling and across the paving.

Space for the southern workers
As Bristol expanded rapidly in the nineteenth century and places like Knowle, Totterdown and Bedminster became awash with Victorian terraces - causing many cramped and unsanitary conditions. A clamour for open space and fresh air was answered by the creation of the park.
