Benchmark on St Bartholomew's, Wick
Entirely common to find a cut mark on a church beside a main road. This one happens to be the charming edifice on the A420 London Road. The base of a tower or steeple is commonly favoured, as here.

Wick: A420 Church Road and GATSO speed camera
GATSO speed cameras are manufactured by the Dutch company GATSOmeter BV. The invention had its roots in a device invented by the late champion rally driver Maurice Gatsonides, who used radar beams to measure his speed through various road configurations during his preparations along a proposed rally route in order to optimize his own speed and alignment.
This camera set-up is a really clever one with the distance road markings behind the camera as well as in front!
