Now a rather down-at-heel appearance for part of Bristol's elegant nineteenth century development.

2-8 Cave Street, Bristol
Familiar Bristolian Georgian, although brick is not often seen. This group is probably c1828 but employs the same motif of stepped voussoirs favoured by prolific local architects the Patys fifty plus years earlier. Grade II listed. Now clearly derelict. The listing says they were converted to a warehouse at some point. Writing is faintly visible but I can only make out the last word, "Manufacturers".

Terrace, Portland Square, Bristol
The astonishingly sad state of a grade I listed terrace https://www.historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1208879 (left) is also shown in Image and Image Just one house in the next terrace along Cave Street is listed https://www.historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1202053 . Bomb damage has removed the buildings in between.

Finally filling the gap
Portland Square has lost a lot of its original glamour and splendour, with properties losing value and being left to rot. A gap in the housing was once filled with a cheerless warehouse, but which was demolished many years ago; little has happened until recently.

Will this be a door?
A new section of Portland Square is being rebuilt after many years neglect. The reinforcing is already in place - perhaps for some entrance?

The high lifting is now being performed by some heavy machinery, now that the latest building has grown to such size.
