Kate's Dog Walking Field
There appears to be a growing movement in providing a safe, open-air environment for exercising doggies. This (presumably private) field has a 2m high deer fence all round - to keep the deer out or the dogs in.

War memorial cross in St Congar's church grounds
The memorial is dedicated to the village men who perished in World War One. Unfortunately, the cross was damaged in the storm of 25th January, 1990, but was restored later.

St Congar's church, Badgworth
St Congar is, to put it mildly, not one of the better-known saints. It seems that he was born in Pembrokeshire in about 470 AD, and lived until 520 AD. He moved from Wales to Congresbury (named after him) and established a monastery on Cadbury Hill Image The church here in Badgworth also bears his name. It is thought that this was the centre of a Bishopric which ultimately became the diocese of Bath & Wells.

St Congar's tower
The church can be dated from the early fourteenth century, with much more work being carried out in the fifteenth - that's when the tower was added. Grade II listed. See Image] for a closer look at the dates on the south face.

Dates on the tower
St Congar's church tower has some authentic dates set into the south face. The top date is 1575 - its building; below the middle line reads 1704, above that is the restoration date of 1909. The bottom has four initials: IG and PC. Inside are five bells, two of which are pre-Reformation and inscribed in Latin.

St Congar's sundial
St Congar would be long gone before this sundial was erected. The date suggests it is a Silver Jubilee monument. See Image] for a wider view.
