High church of Woodspring Priory
Founded in the thirteenth century, the Augustinian Priory was disbanded under Henry VIII in 1536 and given over to local landowning families. They variously renovated and altered the original buildings, making new floors in the larger spaces. Here a bedroom shows original arches of the priory, now reachable after a floor was built.

A hint of the holy
Woodspring Priory was a thriving Augustinian establishment until the Dissolution. It then became used for many different, non-religious purposes.Today it is a holiday let and this bedroom shows some of the original arches in the wall. The coloured windows are not, but a modern hint at the ecclesiastic past.

The former priory, now a holiday home
The Augustinian priory and farmhouse were taken over by the National Trust in 1968, then the Landmark Trust a year later. Parts of the farmhouse and monastic buildings are now available for holiday hire and are beautifully appointed.
