Dispensing with tradition
The centre building is clearly an older one. it was Bristol's quiet revolution in that it would be able to dispense remedies to people who could not afford the services of a doctor. The Bristol Medical Missionary Society (later Bristol Medical Mission) was founded in 1871 and was a charitable organisation to help the sick and 'work to reclaim those who had fallen into evil ways'.
It seems pitiless that the original buildings are now reduced to the dispensary (behind was a malthouse) with two modern (and totally unsympathetic) structures crowd in.
