The Old Tavern is old news
The pub on Blackberry Hill was first built in the eighteenth century with a range of rooms. It served many of the staff at the adjacent Bristol Lunatic Asylum, later the Stapleton Hospital, but is now closed. Rumours are abroad that it will not be returning to the trade and may be demolished.

Bristol Glenside Hospital Church
Now in the grounds of the Glenside Campus of the University of the West of England (UWE) the former Stapleton Asylum Church (later Bristol Mental Hospital, and before its closure Glenside Hospital) is a picturesque Victorian Gothic structure and is now in use as the museum with artefacts from the former hospital. It is open on Weds and Sat mornings, free admission.

Closed doors to a closed pub
The Old Tavern had a long history in the business but has fallen on hard times now. The gig fly posting hardly revives the appearance.

Keeping the ethos of fresh air and exercise
This exercise equipment lies in the bounds of the old Glenside mental health hospital. The previous patients were encouraged to be as active as possible as a way of treating their conditions. Having closed as a working hospital it seems the idea of keeping going is still being promoted positively.

A mixture of old things
The former chapel in the Glenside mental health hospital is now home to the museum of treatments that were applied to patients in the nineteenth and mainly twentieth centuries. There are various collections and displays that lend a distinctive style to the presentation. Here an old sink unit has been combined with some old stained glass lighting.

An occasional sing-song
The old chapel in Glenside Hospital is now the home of the varied and extensive museum, featuring many items and accounts of the former Bristol Lunatic Asylum. The chapel was built for the patients and much of the original features remain. Indeed, the chapel does still hold the occasional service on special days.
