Light from light
The old coal and gas works were founded to provide Bristol with light and heat. Now there's plenty of light and air.

The West Purifier House (part of the old Gas Works) is one of the few ruinous harbourside structures yet to be rebuilt for 21st century usage. The red brick chimney, to the left, remains from the former Engine House.

Old gas works buildings, Brandon Yard
The two roofless buildings are left the West Purifier House and right the engine house with chimney. They date from 1840 and are a very early survival of gasworks buildings and are Listed Grade II. After lying derelict for decades with plenty of to-ing and fro-ing about their future, a scheme to create 56 residences in and around the old shells finally gained planning approval in April 2017.
