A large building standing in the little street at the back of Christmas Steps is a relative newcomer. In the previous centuries there was a different structure known as the Forage Stores.

Old stone carvings on Christmas Steps
The central panel records that they were removed from Marsh Hall, but I can find no other information about them (e.g. date). The hall may have been the old Merchants' Hall which was in Marsh Street.

Foster's Almshouses, Colston Street, Bristol
Attractive Gothic (Burgundian according to Pevsner) with a collection of turrets, diaperwork, clustered chimneystacks, and roof finials all the way round. Founded in 1483, but rebuilt by Foster & Wood, 1861-63. Grade II* listed. Now flats.
