Paygate Cottages
The old toll house is next to the parked BT van. The A26 was turnpiked in the mid eighteenth century though from this point it uses the course of an old Roman road. Nowadays the A26 thunders through it.

Old Toll House by Uckfield Road, Ringmer
Toll House by the A26, in the parish of Ringmer (Lewes District), Old Paygate Cottage, Uckfield Road, Ringmer. The cottage was moved here from South Malling in the 1980s.

View NW towards Twin Cottages
The camera was in TQ4311 and Twin Cottages lie just over the grid boundary (in TQ4211), making this a cross-grid shot. Two parallel lines of pylons cross the photo, creating a confusion of cables and metalwork. The houses behind Twin Cottages lie on the A26.
