Former Army Barracks, Laughton Road
The building is believed to be the former officers mess of the Royal Horse Artillery Barracks built during the time of the Napoleonic wars. The barracks were decommissioned in 1828 and sold off with the land reverting to farmland and some of the buildings becoming a private lunatic asylum which itself closed in 1855. The buildings now house the kennels for the Southdown and Eridge Hunt with this one subdivided into East, Middle and West houses possibly providing live in facilities for hunt workers.
