Cooksbridge
Allegedly the name Cooksbridge derives from the time of the Battle of Lewes in 1264 when Prince Edward's army set up camp in the vicinity and placed the field kitchen on a bridge over a stream. The village like many others grew around the station, built originally for the older settlement of Hamsey. This view looks south down the A275 as it passes the level crossing next to the station and pub.

Cooksbridge railway station
Viewed from the A275 level crossing, the station is on the line between Lewes and Wivelsfield. The current timetable shows that only 12 London-bound trains stop at the station on an ordinary weekday, but all of these are direct and the journey time to London is just over an hour.
