Brack Mount, Lewes
Lewes Castle is unusual in that has a bailey and two mottes. Defensive towers remain on the highest motte but the secondary motte - Brack Mount is shown here. The building in the foreground is 'The Maltings' and is the East Sussex County Records Office

The Barbican Gatehouse, Lewes, East Sussex
This magnificent 14th century gatehouse leads into the grounds of the ruined 11th century castle. The extensive use of flint nodules gathered from the surrounding chalk hills is notable.

Castle Ditch Lane
