High Street, Lewes
Although the High Street is designated for traffic in both directions, the road is too narrow for vehicles to pass each other from just the other side of Keere Street and here and therefore traffic lights have been installed. A car is seen waiting for the lights to change. In 1967 there was no such consideration Image

Eighteenth century child mortality recorded in the churchyard of St Michael in Lewes
St Michael in Lewes is one of the Sussex churches with a round tower. You go through the church which fronts on to the High Street and beyond a door on the north side of the church you reach the totally unexpected churchyard. It slopes up to the north towards the castle. This tomb to George and Grace Kemp also lists their several children who are buried here: Nathanael died July 11th 1748 aged 11 months John died March 9th 1751 aged 2 years Grace died January 13th 1752 aged 1 year George died May 25th 1758 aged 3 years Ann died December 20th 1759 aged 7 years

Door - Lewes
Unusual door. With a huge step down to the pavement. The notice says: Tradesmen's entrance. Beware of steps.
