Saddlescombe from North Hill
Small hamlet nestling in a dip in the Downs and sited on an ancient Iron Age trackway which ran east-west. The settlement provides the majority of the population of the parish of Newtimber despite consisting of just a few cottages and a farm which is in the former manor house. The manor itself was briefly on the hands of the Knights Templars until their suppression in 1308 whence it passed over to Knights Hospitallers who kept until the dissolution.
