Snowdogs by the Sea: #1 - Boomer
Location: Big Beach Cafe, Hove Lagoon Sponsor: Big Beach Cafe Designer: RYCA (In collaboration with Norman Cook) One of three inside sculptures on the trail along with Mod Dog and Roodle by virtue of the fact that incorporated into the design is a sound system. Big Beach Cafe has been owned by Norman Cook, aka Fatboy Slim, since 2013 taking over from previous owner Heather Mills, ex-wife of Paul McCartney. [Update 6 December - Auctioned for £20,000, the second highest amount] The snowdogs by the sea is a public art trail that will take place from 24 September to 27 November 2016 across Brighton involving 45 decorated snow dog sculptures 1.5m high that are placed around various parts of the city (Except number 45 which will be located on Platform 17 at Victoria Station in London). They are based on the story of 'The Snowman and the Snowdog' the follow up to The Snowman by Raymond Briggs. Briggs at least has some association with the city having taught at the Brighton School of Art, that later became part of Brighton Polytechnic, from 1961-86. He currently resides at Westmeston a small village located along the spring line of the South Downs about seven miles north of the city centre. The trail is co-ordinated by and will raise funds for the Martlets Hospice a local charity with each dog sponsored by a local business, agency or celebrity. At the beginning of December each dog will be auctioned off along with a set of snow puppies, smaller sculptures, that have been decorated by local schools and placed in museums and libraries [Update - Auction raised £337,000 on 6 December 2016]. Big Beach Cafe, Hove Lagoon, Hove
Originally the Hove Lagoon Cafe which opened in 1930 along with the nearby lagoon, it briefly became the Funky Fish before being purchased by Heather Mills, former wife of Paul McCartney, and reopened as VBites, a vegan cafe, in July 2009. The local clientele never really took to the business and was eventually sold to Norman Cook, aka Fatboy Slim, who reopened it as the Big Beach Cafe in May 2013. Cook, who lives in nearby Western Esplanade nicknamed Millionaire's Row, has regalvanised the area and has partly financed the refurbishment of the children's playground out of shot to the right by providing a large play pirate ship, making it one of the most popular parks in Brighton and Hove.

VBites Cafe
Originally the Hove Lagoon Cafe which opened in 1930 along with the nearby lagoon it briefly became the Funky Fish before being purchased by Heather Mills, former wife of Paul McCartney, and reopened as VBites in July 2009. V stands for vegan which is the fare on offer in this cafe/bar. Not quite sure what the locals make of it but it was reasonably busy today even though there were not that many people around.
