More juxtaposition of new and not so new and again an indictment of how planning is gradually changing in this square. The long avenues and large plots in Hove leave it ripe for property developers to buy up land containing family houses in order to replace with blocks of flats or apartments. Amber Court was erected in the 1990s on the site of six former houses.

Located next door to Image and seven years on from Image when the previous structure was demolished the flats are only just being built. Originally a bungalow with a large garden the rise in house prices and the limitation for expansion within the borough of Brighton & Hove meant the land became worth more than the house itself and was sold for development over a decade ago.

Completed in 2002 this yet another example of how land is at a premium in this square. The left the roof of the bungalow at 54 can just be made out. Until 2002 there were three similar buildings next to each other, as the hoarding to the right testifies only one remains. Old Victorian and Edwardian villas can at the least be converted into flats to maximise income, bungalows cannot, and as the land is worth more than the property many smaller buildings are now disappearing and Palmeira Avenue is becoming dotted with non-descript blocks of flats. Though at least this one retains some kind of art deco look that at least tries to fit into the seaside tradition though not in Hove.

The garage is all that remains of a former bungalow that stood on this site and that too will be demolished soon. The bungalow went because the price of the land it was on outstripped the value of the actual building the result will be similar to Image where a block of flats with its own parking will be erected instead.

There had been overnight rain and the small scoreboard above the Pavilion shows the start was delayed on the final day of the County Championship season, with a pitch inspection due at 10.45. Play eventually began at one o'clock. The view is from Palmeira Avenue.

The scoreboard on the eastern side of the County Ground, seen from the square, at lunch on Day 1 of the Sussex-Notts game. Sussex had reached 105-2 (Chris Nash 63 not out, Murray Goodwin 0 not out) and were later bowled out for 304, winning comfortably, by 9 wickets, on the third day after forcing the County Champions to follow on on Day 2. The pronounced north-south slope of the ground shows clearly.
