Watching cricket at Hove
It's probably a decent view from the balconies of the flats on Palmeira Avenue, but only two pairs of residents were watching Sussex's match against Nottinghamshire. More people were enjoying the spectacle from the tables outside the hospitality tents in the south-east corner, and there was a good crowd in other parts of the ground.

The County Ground, Hove: pre-match practice
Ground staff at work and Sussex and Nottinghamshire players limbering up before the start of play on the first day of a County Championship match, against a background of the block of flats at the Cromwell Road End. In the foreground is the Nottinghamshire and England player Samit Patel, who had a lot of work ahead of him, scoring a wonderful 157 in Notts' first innings and bowling thirty consecutive overs during Sussex's second innings. The visitors had the better of an absorbing draw.

Hove: autograph hunters
Sussex's County Championship match against Nottinghamshire - a high-scoring draw on a batsman-friendly wicket - formed part of Sussex's 175th Anniversary celebrations, and a number of school parties had been invited. During the Sussex first innings, excited primary-school children queued for the autograph of Nottinghamshire's Australian Test fast bowler Peter Siddle (No 12), who was fielding at third man and signed happily and quickly between balls, assisted by Notts' twelfth man, Luke Fletcher.
