St John's Road
A service road separating the Adelaide Crescent/Palmeira Square developments from the Avenue's estate. The spire of St John's church is in the background.

First Avenue, Hove
A view of the eastern side of First Avenue that was constructed during the 1870s. Many of these old townhouses are now subdivided into flats and bedsits.

Hangover Square
Actually its First Avenue, Hove but the visible blue plaque marks the childhood home of writer Patrick Hamilton creator of the play Rope and novels, Twenty Thousand Streets Under the Sky and Hangover Square itself part of which was set in Brighton. The house with the white around the windows is actually the northern portion of the Imperial Hotel.

St Johns Road
The road lies between First Avenue and Palmerira Square/Adelaide crescent and was built as a service road for the latter which means it is split between residential properties and workshops and garages. The pavement is actually marked out on the road.

Begun in 1830 and completed around 1849, financed by Isaac Goldsmit and designed by Decimus Burton.

Adelaide Mansions
Constructed in 1874 and converted into flats during the first decade of the twentieth century. They were further modernised in the 1980s and 1990s when half of the building was converted from a former hotel. Adelaide Mansions occupies the space between First Avenue on the left and St John's Road on the right and overlooks Brunswick Lawns and the sea. The road in the foreground is Kingsway (A259).

Adelaide Mansions
Built in 1874 with parts once being a former hotel, though they have now all been converted to flats which overlook King's Lawns and the sea. Taken from Queen's Gardens with the white exterior reflecting the late day's sun.
