The Horseshoe Inn
The building was built in 1953 and decorated in mock Tudor style externally and internally and is on the A271 south of Herstmonceux. In March 1981 change of use to a nursing home was refused and in July 2019 planning to demolish it was withdrawn. Prior to this in May 2019 a sales brochure was offering the 5,685 sq.m. building on a 1.4 acre site for sale at £1.5m. April 2021 it was reported the building was to be demolished in the May but it was still standing in Googles September street view. Planning, with conditions, was approved in July 2021 for provision of what was described as ‘erection of a new public house’ with letting rooms and landscaping in the car park.

Taken from the junction of the A271 and Comphurst Lane outside the Horseshoe Inn. There has been a general stores at this spot from at least 1852 and a post office has been part of it since 1897. The small house to the left is Thorpe House which is also an antiques shop.
