Distance
1
Entering Berwick, East Sussex
The road does indeed enter the village of Berwick, but it is somewhat confusing as the village of Berwick proper is a mile to the south. This 'Berwick' grew around the railway station and has houses from the Victorian period.

Station Road
Looking towards the junction with Common Lane to the left and Chilver Bridge Road to the right before entering the settlement of Berwick station. The white building in the distance is indeed the station building. The road was once the B2108 but was downgraded to the C39 during the 1970s.

Station Road
The road to Berwick from Berwick. There are two settlements within the parish of Berwick, the old village built round the church and its farms the newer settlement which grew up around the railway station on the site of Berwick Common. The latter has the better facilities including a post office, general stores, pub and garage. The white cottage on the right is Crossways Cottage which overlooks the crossroads in the distance.

Crossroads South of Berwick
Station Road runs from left to right whilst the lane straight ahead is Chilvers Bridge Road and the route out of view heading back to Selmeston is Common Lane. Common Lane/Chilvers Bridge Road is part of an old coaching route from Lewes to Eastbourne. This rather circuitous route was superseded by a new turnpike built to the south in 1819 which is currently the A27.
