Saunders Park View, Brighton
A small estate of the Lewes Road which consists of two branches, a northern and a southern. This is part of the latter and was originally built as housing for soldiers serving at Preston Barracks. When that site contracted in size they were sold to the council in 1987.

Saunders Park View
I believe some of these were former service houses for Preston Barracks which were taken over by the council in 1987. The barracks opened in 1793 and remained in use until the 1980s when much of the land was sold off for housing and a business park with a small section left in the northern part of the site for use by the territorial army.

Pavilion Retail Park, Lewes Road, Brighton
Built in the late 1980s on the southern part of the old Preston Barracks demolishing virtually all the original surviving buildings from the late 18th century in the process. There are three retail units though only two were occupied at this time, Halfords in view and B & Q through the trees to the right, both have been here since the park opened. The empty unit was occupied by Comet from 1990 until the end of 2012 when they went bust. The park is looking very shabby at the moment.

Saunders Park View, Brighton
A small estate of Lewes Road which consists of two branches, a southern and northern one. This is the northern part which was built in the late 1980s by the council on land obtained from neighbouring Preston Barracks. The building visible in the distance is the Watts Building part of the University of Brighton.

Through the Round Window
View of the flats in Saunders Park Rise from Saunders Park. The park was laid out in 1924 on the site of an old waterworks from which the walls are the sole remaining feature from that period. The flats were built in the 1980s on the site of the former Preston Barracks.
