The field has a public footpath along its edge, confined between the hedge and a fence. It is adjacent to a housing estate.

Lower Old Wells
The name of the field according to the 1838 tithe map. Viewed from the footpath that links Peelings Lane with Rattle Road with the western edge of Westham visible in the distance. Both that village and Stone Cross have expanded in the last thirty years and you wonder how long these green fields will remain.

Rattle Road
Until the early 1990s this was the main A27 trunk road as it left Stone Cross and headed towards Westham. Since the building of the Pevensey by-pass it has been reduced to a minor road mainly providing access to the western side of Westham. Local legend has it that the name of the road derives from the rattling of the chains when bodies on a nearby gibbet would blow in the wind.

Rattle Road
House built circa 1927, originally single storey and extended 1990's. Rattle Road so named after the carts which rattled whilst transporting the bones from Gallows Lane!

Peelings Lane near Stone Cross
Looking west along a small lane between Westham and Stone Cross, the new housing estates of the latter can just be made to the left of the picture.

Beggars Lane
Private road that heads south east then doubles back again to Rattle Road near Uplands Farm. The building on the right is Mill House whilst part of the fantail and a sail of Stone Cross windmill can just be seen above it.
