4b, Sudeley Place, Kemp Town, Brighton
The building originated as a Congregational Chapel built in 1891 but was closed and converted into a cinema in 1920. Known as King's Cliff (1920), Playhouse (1949) after a two year stint as a theatre, and from 1951 the Continentale. During the 1960s its repertoire was split between art house and pornography concentrating entirely on the latter from the late 1960s until its closure in 1986, the last films shown being a double bill of Off Duty Pleasures and Sexy Couriers. In the late 1980s the cinema was converted into four dwellings. Located on the corner of Sudeley Street.
