Perhaps overdoing the reaction against white & cream painted hotels. Image was more tasteful.

Blaker Street
Head west down Edward Street then north into Blaker Street. Constructed in 1898 as an early slum clearance replacing Chesterfield and Street and Derby Place. The other street in this square that I once lived in and is certainly more colourful since I was last here. Click on the link to take you to the next page. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/231681

Greek Orthodox Church, Carlton Hill
Head north up Blaker Street then west down Carlton Hill. The church was originally built by the Rev Henry Wagner and consecrated in 1840 and although altered in 1957 the low congregation forced the church to close in 1980 and it remained empty until 1986 when the current incumbents moved from Windsor Lodge. Brighton Spiritualist Church
A fair amount of money must have been spirited up for this remarkable windowless building on a prominent site. Its local rival, the Brighton and Hove Spiritualist Church, is a far humbler establishment in far humbler surroundings.
