The Dipperays, East Dean
A large 18th century house that lies to the immediate north of the village green behind the Tiger Inn. Built in 1755 by a local called James Dipperay who was a local churchwarden when he died in 1791 but had made his money from the smuggling trade having connections with nearby Birling Manor and Crowlink, the latter then well known for its supply of high quality duty free gin from the continent. Viewed from the village car park a couple of minutes before sunrise.
