Approach to Littlehampton station
The railway tracks at the approach to Littlehampton station. Semaphore signals, to the right of the image, are still in use here. They are controlled from the signal box in the background. Further in the distance is a gasometer (or gasholder).

Littlehampton station throat
The station throat at Littlehampton, seen from near the ends of platforms 1 and 2. The semaphore starting signals are prominently visible, sharing their brackets with shunt signals (with their bottoms cut off in typical Southern style); such signals are often found at track level, but are elevated here, presumably to avoid conflict with the third (conductor) rail. The signal box that controls the signals is visible on the right, next to the terrace of houses. The small, shed like structure to the left of the signal post is a carriage washing facility.

Electric and steam at Littlehampton
Unit 377 140 enters the station whilst 46100 'Royal Scot' waits and takes on water with the 'Bognor Belle'. It was scheduled to depart for London Victoria at 17:19, so there is well over an hour to wait.

Littlehampton station
A service to Bognor Regis stands at the platform, awaiting clearance of the platform end semaphore signal. That will only happen once the train on the left, a 12-coach service just arrived late from London Victoria via Hove, begins the reverse journey.
